THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER – Sam Claflin, who played Finnick Odair in the Hunger Games movies, will star in Bagman, a supernatural thriller from Lionsgate.
British helmer Colm McCarthy, who directed season two of Peaky Blinders, the pilot for DC show Krypton and the indie The Girl With all the Gifts, is directing the feature that was written by John Hulme.
Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey — who count Twilight, Maze Runner and The Fault in Our Stars among their credits — are producing.
The story centers on a father, played by Claflin, who desperately struggles against his deepest inner fear when the childhood monster he once vanquished returns to haunt him. This time, however, the father has to muster the strength to not just fight for himself, but for his family.
The project is being introduced to international buyers in the coming days at the Cannes Film Festival.
Meredith Wieck and Jorge Alfaro are overseeing the project for Lionsgate. Temple Hill exec John Fischer brought in the project and will oversee for the company.
Lionsgate worked with Claflin on its hit Hunger Games movies, casting him as the dashing games victor Odair, who would become an invaluable asset to heroine Katniss Everdeen. “Since we first worked with him on Catching Fire, Sam has grown into a compelling leading man,” said Lionsgate motion picture president Nathan Kahane. “We’re thrilled that he responded so strongly to this project.”

Samuel George Claflin (born 27 June 1986) is an English actor. After graduating from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 2009, he began his acting career on television and had his first film role as Philip Swift in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).
Claflin gained wider recognition for playing Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games film series (2013–2015) and for his starring role in the romantic comedy Me Before You (2016). He has since starred in the films Adrift (2018) and The Nightingale (2018), and portrayed Oswald Mosley in the television series Peaky Blinders (2019-2022) and Mycroft Holmes in the mystery film Enola Holmes (2020).
Early life
Samuel George Claflin was born in Ipswich, Suffolk,[1] to Mark, a finance officer, and Sue Claflin (née Clarke), a teaching assistant. He has two older brothers, Benjamin and Daniel, and a younger brother, Joseph (born 1989), who is also an actor.[2] He grew up in Norwich, Norfolk.
As a child, he had an interest in football. He played throughout his childhood until he broke his ankle, an injury that he felt would prevent him from playing professionally. After some persuasion from his parents and a teacher with whom he'd made an impression during his high school play at Costessey High School, he pursued acting.[1][3]
A member of the Norwich City School of Excellence,[4] in 2003, he took up Performing Arts at Norwich City College.[3] Claflin subsequently graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 2009.[5]
Career
Claflin at the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides premiere in May 2011Claflin made his acting debut in 2010, when he appeared in two television miniseries—in The Pillars of the Earth as Richard and in Any Human Heart as young Logan Mountstuart. In March 2011, he was cast as Thomas in Seventh Son, a film adaptation of The Spook's Apprentice,[6] but was dropped for unknown reasons and was replaced by Ben Barnes.[7] His next appearance came in April 2011, when he portrayed footballer Duncan Edwards in the BBC TV drama United, which was centred on the events of the 1958 Munich air disaster, in which Edwards died as a result of his injuries.
In April 2010, he was cast as Philip Swift, a missionary who falls in love with the mermaid Syrena (portrayed by Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey), in 2011's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. For the film, he received a nomination in the 17th Empire Awards for "Best Male Newcomer."[8] In 2012, he appeared as Jack in the six-episode miniseries White Heat. Later that year, he played a supporting role in the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman, as William, Snow White's childhood friend. He received a nomination in the 2012 Teen Choice Awards for the category "Best Movie Breakout". Also in 2012, he was cast in the lead role in Hammer Films' The Quiet Ones, which was filmed in mid-2013 and was released in April 2014.[9]
On 22 August 2012, Lionsgate announced that Claflin had been cast as Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games film series, starting with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.[10][11] The director of Catching Fire, Francis Lawrence, stated of Claflin's performance during filming: "Finnick's an interesting character. At first he feels like a bit of a flirt and there's a little bit of sexual tension, but really you kind of fall in love with the guy and you see that there's a real deep emotional side to him. It's one of the reasons I really hired him in the first place was that it's where his character goes in the next couple of stories and I just think he did a fantastic job."[12] The film was released in November 2013 to general acclaim and Claflin's portrayal of Finnick received positive reviews.[13][14] Claflin reprised the role in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, released in November 2014, and Part 2, released in November 2015.[15]
In February 2013, it was announced that Claflin was cast as Alex in the film adaptation of Cecelia Ahern's novel Where Rainbows End, distributed as Love, Rosie in some territories.[16] The following month, he starred in the TV film Mary and Martha as Ben, which was broadcast by BBC One.[17] He received critical acclaim for his role as Oxford University student Alistair Ryle in the British dramatic thriller The Riot Club with Charlotte O'Sullivan of the London Evening Standard saying "Claflin captures his character's vitriol very well" and Laura Dibdin of Digital Spy saying "Claflin brings intrigue and vulnerability to offset the sense of entitlement thus making Alistair the film's most fascinating character".
In 2016, Claflin reprised his role as William, Snow White's childhood friend, in several scenes of the sequel The Huntsman: Winter's War. The same year, he starred in Me Before You, the film adaptation of the novel of the same name, in which he played William Traynor.[18] Claflin gained further critical acclaim for his role of Captain Stanhope in the war drama Journey's End (2017) and Adrift (2018).
In 2018, Claflin joined the fifth season of the BBC television drama Peaky Blinders, as the British fascist politician Oswald Mosley.[19] He starred in The Corrupted in 2019.[20][21] In September 2020, he co-starred in the Netflix original film Enola Holmes as Mycroft Holmes, elder brother of the title character.
Personal life
In 2011, Claflin started dating actress Laura Haddock,[22] whom he had met in an audition for My Week with Marilyn. The two married in July 2013 in a private ceremony.[23][24][25] They have a son, born in December 2015, and a daughter, born in February 2018.[26][27] On 20 August 2019, Claflin and Haddock announced their legal separation.[28] He has been dating model Cassie Amato since 2022.

His father is an accountant/financial manager and his mother is a school pupil welfare adviser.
While he is of mostly English descent, part of his father's family is American. His paternal grandfather was born in Connecticut, and his great-grandfather, Newton Cleveland Claflin, was from Revere, Massachusetts. I do just genuinely believe Chris Hemsworth is a 6'3, more muscular version of me. And more handsome, but I try.
When I was in high school, I was a bad singer. I mean, all my early acting was musical theater, and my first ever show was 'Jesus Christ Superstar.' Everyone's familiar with it. I played priest number 3 and sang so out of tune that it's not even funny.
I always try to be true to who I am and just be myself.
I don't go to royal parties or play polo on horseback. No, I don't hang out with the posh crowd, if that makes sense.
I used to spend a lot of time at football training, but that time was later spent in amateur acting classes and my local youth theatre, in plays at school and after-school clubs. That filled the void.
I have to prove myself in a lot of ways - as an actor, as a person, as someone who can handle pressure.
Get yourself into every audition that you can. Even in those for smaller roles, you'll never know when someone may recommend you for a bigger one.
I come from the bottom of the ladder. I'm from Norwich. Not many people seem to know about it.
One of the first pieces of advice I was ever given, on my first job was, 'You should always buy something to treat yourself to say, 'Well done for getting the job!''
I keep in touch with what's real.
I'm very English. I'm white. I mean, I'm so pale. With spray tans they start peeling and start getting really dirty looking.
I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, I think, and I strive for perfection.
Johnny Depp gave me the best advice. He said, 'Keep your feet on the ground. Stay grounded. Remember where you came from.'
I'm open to all the elements, I'm definitely ready to take anything on. But I don't want to jump too far into the deep end.
I think it's every actor's dream to play a character that's really odd, and you know no one wants to play himself.
I've lived with boys and girls, and I find that boys are generally cleaner than girls. Generally! This is a big generalization!
My parents don't have any showbusiness links. They are so far away from it.
A famous actor told me once - I don't want to name names, I hate that sort of thing - but I was at his house and he said, 'Are you on Twitter?' I said, 'Yes, I am.' And he said, 'There'll be one day when you'll have, like, five friends. And in the same day it'll go to five thousand.'
Chris Hemsworth is like my bromance. Seriously, I think I really inherited one of my best friends now. He doesn't know this yet, but I'm going to stalk him if he doesn't.
L.A. is my office. I come here for work and work only.
Going through the ranks and all the training you do as an actor, you hope you're going to make it. But there's a part of you that's got to be realistic and say: 'Look, it might not happen to me.'
I purposefully did not want to watch anything I've done so far; I actually don't like looking at my face, so I don't like watching myself on the screen. It's an insecurity thing I have.
I quite like the element of surprise, and as much as I have my ideas, I always appreciate ideas that come from other people as well, and I love the mystery of not knowing.
In England, when we're at drama school, we spend a lot of time learning the craft from playwrights and stage actors, who are very well trained in the basics of acting because they need to get it right the first time - you can't have second or third takes when you're in front of a live audience, unlike in film.
One of the first pieces of advice I was ever given, on my first job was, you should always buy something to treat yourself to say well done for getting the job! However I've not followed on that through yet... I've always wanted a tattoo, something to mark my experience.
There will be times when you just can't seem to land an acting job, and you feel like giving up. Don't! The only way to realise that dream is to keep working hard for it.
I don't know what you're talking about but I'm still going to laugh.
I wanted to play Katniss, but they refused.
[Peeta/Finnick "kiss"] I definitely had butterflies.
I've learnt a few tricks [when filming The Hunger Games]... shaving my chest is one of them.
[commenting a picture of an earthworm he uploaded] I got worms.
I'm surprised that the director was able to look past my ugly exterior.
Don't you just hate it - tripping over your own feet. I'll be on the floor of my trailer if anyone needs me.
Can I describe Jennifer Lawrence in three words? No, I can't. There are so many great fantastic compliments I have to give that girl. Three words isn't enough.
Oh, 'Sam Claflin and wife on holiday'. Who cares? Like, why is that hitting the news? Like, the fact we had... it ruined the holiday. The fact that people were very intrusive and kind of interfering in our break, it's really irritating. I don't find myself interesting. Or my wife interesting. No wait! She's very interesting, of course.
[Backstreet Boys or *NSYNC save or kill] Och, neither. I don't know. Purely because I know more of the Backstreets'... work, I'll save *NSYNC.
I don't really like my face. I'm a little offended by it in fact.
This really gigantic crab was coming down [in the worst nightmare I had as a child], was coming at me like this [moves hands like crab's claws ] and I woke up right before it got me. I think big crabs scare the living daylights out of me. Don't know why. Maybe because I'm a Cancer!
[on the sugar cube scene in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"] The scariest moment of my life. I'm on Twitter and so many people have been like 'Don't mess this up, or we will kill you.'
I remember doing one job when they literally made me pull my shirt up and were grabbing my fat and going, "You need to lose a bit of weight". This other time they were slapping me. I felt like a piece of meat.
I like a good cry, I can't deny. I'm also rhyming.
Then I made out with Josh [Hutcherson]. It's like my favorite film ever!
I definitely spanked Jennifer Lawrence with my trident.
When I do shave, I feel like I'm about ten years old.
I still don't have a life. I have no friends.
I sat on my own with my dog last night and watched My Best Friend's Wedding - it's one of my favorite films of all time. Notting Hill, Love Actually, When Harry Met Sally... When a romantic comedy is done well there's nothing that beats it.
For the good of Panem, he [Finnick] basically tells them his life story and it's hugely emotional but at the same time he doesn't allow himself to get emotional. I think the reasoning behind it is, I'm ready to fight. This is my small, small donation to the cause. In comparison to what other people have sacrificed, him telling his story is a small sacrifice.
[How do you always look so dapper all the time?] I uh... I don't know... do I? I don't know that I do. Trust me, you don't see me behind closed doors. Wait, that sounds really shady...

- между частями сложносочинённого, сложноподчинённого или сложного бессоюзного предложения;
