A Very Loki Affair – Our Chat With Tom Hiddleston
by Isaac TaylorLet’s not pretend that the Avenger’s most persistent villain and antihero isn’t the best character in the Marvel universe. Tom Hiddleston has had the great fortune of being able to play a comedic relief, while being taken absolutely seriously. While his face has become synonymous with Loki, he isn’t being typecast anytime soon.
He debuted in the movies in 2007 with Unrelated, and became a household name just four years later in 2011 when he landed his role as Loki in the first Thor movie. While Disney has been paying his bills for the past decade, he’s also found time to star in other such films like Crimson Peak and Kong: Skull Island. In 2016, he starred and was an executive producer in The Night Manager, for which he scored his first Golden Globe for best actor in a Miniseries or Television Film.
Disney knows a good thing when they see it, and now Loki has his own show. We had a chat with Hiddleston about what it takes to maintain a character for so long, how to remain faithful to the role, and what we should expect from the series. What was your reaction when you were approached about doing a “Loki” series?
It was so exciting. I remember after Infinity War was released having a conversation with everybody at Marvel Studios. And we just put our heads together and thought, right, I’ve done six movies as Loki. And those movies really are the Thor saga. They’re all about Loki’s connection to Thor, his connection with his family. Where do we go now? What have we not done? What’s new? What’s original?
And that was the most inspiring conversation. I remember leaving it thinking, this is going to be very, very new because the character has got so much breadth and so much depth. That’s been the gift to me as an actor. Loki is almost this endlessly fascinating box of tricks where the moment you think you know him, he reveals something else.

Inp>It’s no secret that lately Tom has been super suave in his fashion, and the main force behind that is Ilaria Urbinati, his stylist. As part of the regular Stylist Issue of The Hollywood Reporter, Tom features in a photoshoot with Ilaria and also an interview. Below is a snippet of the article:Tom Hiddleston may be a red-carpet risk-taker, but that doesn’t mean he’ll try every fashion trend.
“I’m not crazy about short trousers, short pants on men.” Hiddleston tells The Hollywood Reporter while playing “Fishing for Answers” with his stylist, Ilaria Urbinati. “Even in the summertime, it’s a risk.”
Luckily, Urbinati, who ranks No. 6 on THR’s 25 Most Powerful Stylists list this year, is aware of the Kong: Skull Island actor’s style preferences. She adds: “It’s true, I always go a little longer with you.”
Check out the video above to hear about Hiddleston’s style icons (Bill Murray, included) and who he thinks is a better co-star between Kong and Thor. Plus, watch Hiddleston show off his best American accent.
I have added photoshoot images to the gallery and also screencaps of their interview shall be added soon, as seen below.

Inp>Tom recently posed for a W Magazine photoshoot, and the images have just been released on their website. We have added them to our photo gallery, check them out:As soon as we sit down, in the far corner of the Four Seasons Hotel lounge in Beverly Hills, Tom Hiddleston spots my pages of questions on the table and thanks me. “Wow, I’m so honoured. Thank you for going to so much trouble,” he says.
I tell him I’m just doing my job but he thanks me all the same, for watching his television series and his movies and for attending that screening last week and reading all those articles in his press file, particularly the one he wrote himself for the Radio Times. When it turns out some of my questions are too personal for him to answer, he apologises. Not a mumbled apology, but a full-eye-contact, sunken-shouldered “sorry”. He’s so sorry that I’m sorry for asking. He’s also sorry that he showed up five minutes late, and that his crazy schedule means we’re stuck in this bar on a Monday evening instead of, “Oh, I don’t know, playing pool or going for a walk in the canyons in this lovely weather. So I totally appreciate you making the time to accommodate. Thank you.”
