She was born on 21 February 1996 in Northampton, England to Sally and Andrew Turner. She moved to Chesterton, Warwickshire when she was two years old. Her mother is a nursery school teacher, and her father works for a pallet distribution company.

Her drama teacher encouraged her to audition, and she dyed her blonde hair auburn for the role. Her performance was nominated for the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series – Supporting Young Actress. She has appeared in all seven seasons of Game of Thrones so far.
She was the lead character in the thriller Another Me, based on the novel by Catherine MacPhail. It was her first movie role and played Adeline March in The Thirteenth Tale in 2013. She also acted in the comedy Barely Lethal, with Hailee Steinfeld. Sophie Turner played mutant Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, which was released in May 2016.
In February 2017, she announced that she would reprise her role as Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which will take place in the early ’90s following the events of X-Men: Apocalypse.
She is a patron of the Women for Women organization which supports female war survivors. On getting her role, she said in the interview “it was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better, but I had the followers, so I got the job.”
In June 2017, she became a brand ambassador international for Wella Hair. Sophie Turner will play Juliane Koepcke in the Girl Who Fell From the Sky based on the autography When I fell from the sky. She is also said to be producing the movie.
